Il benvenuto al mio amico a Il Sasso Cycling. We are a cycling holiday and training camp set in the rolling hills of Macerata, Italy. Our focus is providing affordable cycling training and holiday camps for all abilities, as well as Gran Fondo events in and cycle touring in and around Le Marche, Italy.
We have tried to keep the site clean and easy to navigate while offering as much information as we feel you need, if anything is missing then please get in touch.
I’d like to try and get across who we are and why we do what we do.
Il Sasso is a small-scale cycling camp based in Le Marche, set between the Sibillini mountains in the west and the Adriatic in the east. We set up initially in 2004 with a break from 2007 to 2011 to take up an exciting opportunity within British Cycling and help develop youth cycling in my home region, North east England.
In 2011, we came back in better shape, a revamped website and a fully refurbished house have certainly helped. Our aim is to offer a quality, personal cycling experience in Italy away from the tourists and crowds of other areas. The camp is ran on a small-scale and because of this, we can tailor each holiday to you and your group to make sure you get the most out of your stay. It also means we can keep it affordable, we are not about the big bucks, we love the sport, we love meeting people and if you can go home happy, we’ve done our job.
We also try to help young riders too. In 2011 we took a 1st year senior rider from County Durham and helped him get settled in the region, staying at Casa Liozzi and set him up with a team, peer group and the language. Matt is doing really well now and will be moving up to U23 Elite in 2012 with Team Monte Urano. This is something we hope to do every year, but it takes a lot of commitment from the rider, if they show that, then we can help.
This is me! Over the last 8 years I have been pretty busy and heavily involved in cycle coaching and racing. I started Il Sasso back in 2004 having been on many training camps, really enjoyed them and wanted to get a piece of it too. Having lived in Italy for a few years I returned to the UK in 2007 to take up a coaching role at British Cycling – within both the Go-Ride and Talent programs – and have recently left to push things on at Il Sasso in Italy.
